C25K is couch to 5k(m) in 9 weeks, you can find the program here http://www.cairnscommunications.com/fitness/couch-to-5k.htm

The idea for this challenge will be to do it each and every day that you're due to do it, barring illness or injury of course. It'll start next Monday. You can add extra exercise in if you like but you MUST include 2 rest days per week.

It's going to be a tough slog for everyone, but it's entirely up to you as to whether or not you achieve the 5k. For example, I only need to be able to run 2.5k in 14 minutes. I'd LIKE to be able to run 5km, but it's not urgent. I may keep on working towards that once I've gotten where I want to be time wise.
That works out to about week 6 of the challenge for distance but speed will be another challenge for me so I may work on speed after I can get the distance right.

My goal is to be able to run 2.5km in 14 minutes and I'll be doing c25k on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday with some interval training on Tuesday and Thursday. My rest days are Mondays and Saturdays.

How many times a week?

Hi all,

this might be a stupid question but have people found that they are losing more weight and getting better numbers when they are doing frequent exercise during the week? I was going to the gym but found that i couldn't get into a good routine with the hours that i work...

How much exercise are people doing and how often, is it making a difference with their body shape and their weight loss?

What exercise are you doing, i have been sticking with cardio mainly, should i be doing more weights? or wait until i have reached my goal and then tone up???

What exercise did you do today?

hi everyone!

I also belong to another forum (fashion hehe) that has a 'what exercise did you do today' thread. It is great because it allows the users to log what exercise they plan to do, or did, and as the community develops it assists in becoming accountable for our own activity.

I know that TF doesn't need strenuous exercise, but perhaps this is a way for us to share when we are proud of our physical accomplishments?

I will start the ball rolling...

Today, I walked to work (40 mins), walked through the botanical gardens in my lunch break (40 mins) and will be walking home in 45 mins.

Tomorrow I plan to walk to work and to attend a BodyBurn class in the evening (RebokStep)

Cross Trainer

Well, havent got it yet! But have wanted one at home for ages as I do use the one at the gym but thats probably the only bit of equipment at the gym that I cant make a substitute for at home. So, told Fiance I wanted one for Christmas but they are like $1800 he told me to look on ebay. So I did, and after searching through all the crappy inferior models I found one that was the one. The company actually had 6 for sale and I watched 5 of them go for over $250 (bit too expensive still for me), then last night I got mine for $180!! Was wrapped, now I just have to wait the 2 weeks for it to get here.

For those of you who dont know what a cross trainer is, I would say it is the machine that makes you work the hardest in the whole gym. I commonly call it the devil machine. Even before starting TF I was fairly fit but this thing is a killer!! Its low impact though so it doesnt hurt your knees or ankles and I burn more calories on it in 20 minutes than the treadmill or the rower.

Anyway, sorry for the ramble but I am stocked I will soon have one. And for anyone wanting to give their whole body a good workout at once I would suggest trying this machine out.

Oh it hurts so good!!

A new path for me...

I'm a bit excited but also a bit nervous. I spoke with my hubby today and realised that because of time constraints I really don't have the option of waiting longer whilst I loose more weight before I start exercising, so I'm starting this week. Ideally I would have waited another 4 weeks at least, but after crunching the numbers I've realised that because of hubby's paternal leave rules at work I need to be enlisted by early feb at the latest.
I have quite a bit of work to do before I'm fit enough even though I'm in the appropriate weight range now. I've been doing a bit of work on the treadmill this last week but I've been a bit relaxed about it. Now that I've realised I don't have the time for that I'm going to be getting into it a bit more.
I'm starting the couch to 5k program tomorrow. I'm a bit dubious that I'll be able to run 5km to be honest, I can't even run 100m at the moment! But I won't get there if I don't try so here's to pulled muscles and cool baths lol. I'm also going to be going onto maintenance as there's no way known that I'll get enough calories on the weightloss plan to sustain what I'm actually doing. So I'm crossing my fingers that I'll still have some losses over the next couple of months but I'm not holding my breath ;)

wii fit plus -- have u tried it?

Hey guys

for those of you who have been thinking about the new wii fit game -- wiifit plus -- its absolutely so awesome, and so much better then wii fit (which it also sycronises with). Gweneth paltrow is also on the back of the case stating how this dvd helped her get back into shape also after having her second child.

I figured hey why not, it was $20 (full price) so i figured if i didnt do it, one of the darling children that decided that i should be a grandma before i hit 40 might use it after they have their babies.

So after i realised that i made a boo boo today by putting riccotta in my avocado dip that i made i thought, i might give this a go. I pop on the dvd and listen to how she says that she put on the 60 pound and had that flap of skin that she thought for so long just wouldnt go away - until she she worked out a group of exercises that made it go away -- excellent this is the dvd for me (i thought)

Now i go walking, and i do zumba, and tap and jazz classes, and various other things, but, although i wouldnt call myself fit (i still have 30kg to loose) i wouldnt call myself unfit .... that was until i got to the second part of the video.

Now as you would expect it had the ususal crunches in there and leg lifts but then you get to the part where you have to cross your legs and so a crunch type action -- looks easy enough, yep for her it does, then there is the exercise where you lay on your side, and you pull yourself up - well she can do that i can do that to (not!!) and well then the next one comes along, and shes on her front, and holding herself in a position (miss two thought that meant horsy ride)

So here i am getting rather annoyed at myself and miss tracy anderson because even though she explains what to do if you cant do it and how to work at it, i cant do the easy bits either. Meanwhile miss 4 & miss 2 are laying on the floor doing it AKKKKKKK

Well, i am not one to be beaten, so i am going to make myself learn how to do everything in this dvd, and im setting myself a goal, i want to get that ab/leg exercise down pat and lift that hip off the floor by xmas time.

I suppose this dvd is a cross between pilates / floor exercises/ dance warmup exercises. You can feel the exercises working and the workout is done to nice calming classical type music (not bam bam pump up the moves music).

So if you are up for a dvd to workout with at home, i suggest you give this one a go (you might even be able to hire it from the video store). To give an indication of how hard it works me, I can mostly talk during the exercises but if not I can talk straight after I'm finished doing it...does that sound like moderate to you?

Also the same day as PT I have been doing an exercise video for 1hour and its cardio as well....thoughts on this? to have the extra or not to have the extra

Dont want to jeopardise my weight loss since everythings going to plan at the moment!! :w00t:

What's too much?

If someone was doing 4 hours in total of exerise per day, 5 days a week NOT trying to lose weight, just maintance and fitness (10 minutes jogging, 50 minutes fast walking, 2.5 hour moderate walking, 30 minutes resistance training only.) Would that be ok? Because before I gained my weight(8kg) which I gained crazy on a 2 month holiday I was doing all of that and I had been doing it for about 2 years, I had a trainer for the 30 minutes resistance training and we worked on a different area each day, the 10 minute jog and 50 minute walk was my exercise in the morning(I have this obsession with wanting to live until 100 so I exercised alot) and the 2.5 hour moderate was just me walking my dogs, lol, she said it was fine and after reading a few posts on here I'm getting the feeling some people are under the impression that it's not ok, but I'm not sure if that is just when losing weight or trying to gain muscle? Because I know that's wrong. I've never had to lose weight in the past and so I've never had to exercise or diet to lose weight, I've always been a healthy eater and like I said above the exercise was because I'm like OCD about having a healthy life in my 70's, and hopefully 80's and 90's. I have chose to do Tony Ferguson because I have heard good things about it when it comes to losing 10 kgs or more, I've been working oujt with my trainer since I got back but I cut it down to 3 days a week resistance and I'm stilling walking my dogs every day for 2.5 hours, is that too much aswell? I'm really confused and I'm probably confusing everyone reading this, haha. I'll cut down my exercise during my weightloss if I have to, the dogs will be a problem though as I have 3 very large dogs and they need a good walk every day otherwise they're insane, and I've tried 1 hour and it doesn't seem to do the trick and I have found the perfect balance in 2.5 hours 5 days a week. Anyway, so my question is was my old exercise routine too much? and is my current exercise routine while trying to lose 6-10kg too much? I trust my trainer, but you know, just like with doctors, they can make mistakes. By the way I'm not some anorexic that exercises like an olympic athlete, I eat alot and the exercise is mainly for health reasons.

How to get rid of a muffin top?

I have a kind of muffin top and its drivin me mad. With that in mind, I've spoken to a personal trainer friend who has devised a course of weights for me to follow. Nothing too extreme, but definately strains me (my legs are dead today)

Now my only concern is that protein is needed for muscle repair / regrowth. I'm only getting one protein serve a day which I'm not sure will be enough for what I am trying to achieve

So the question is this, is it possible to increase my protein intake (without increasing carbs / fats too much) and not have a negative effect on the ketosis process?

Some useful info from my personal trainer

I had my personal training session today, Jason(the trainer) told me that if I want to do weights and treadmill, then I need to drop down the amount of days I am doing it. I was doing it 45 min's approx 6 nights. Here is what he said to me today.
He told me this

To achieve what I want to achieve

4 x nights weights, stretching, pushups, and resistance training

3 x nights treadmill (fast brisk walk at 7k's for 30-40 minutes) instead of running as running will burn LACTIC ACID, and lactic acid is the burning sensation we get from exercising too hard. This in turn will burn muscle and thats not what I want. I want to tone, and gain muscle. He said that your heartrate needs to be at a rate of approx 130 bpm to loose fat and weight. Thats some major exercising!

So..lol..I have been doing it wrong. Who knew.

So, no running on tready, just brisk walk to get heart rate up as this will tone and burn calories, no running as this will burn muscle and definition.

A good point. Thought I would share it with you

Interesting Article on exercising outdoors vs indoors

Hi there.
