Drinking excess water can lead to hyponatremia, an electrolyte imbalance. This is due to the excess water you have had being flushed out through your body taking with it essential minerals such as sodium, magnesium and potassium. In severe cases, this can be quite detrimental to your health.
Be aware that you can drink too much water and unless you're undergoing prolonged exercise in a heated environment, we recommended that you do not drink more then four litres of water a day. Even four litres can be excessive if you have only a small build.
