I am so stuck between a rock and a hard place with my scales.  I weigh myself daily because I'm obsessed.  It's such a catch 22 in my mind.  I totally agree with Dr Katz and I already knew most of that before I read it but then my brain thinks "Well what if you've put on weight?  You won't know if you don't weigh yourself so you better just in case.  Then if you are heavier you can do more exercise today or not have that second piece of fruit" etc etc

I've been seriously considering asking hubby to hide the scales and just get them out once a week.  But then I dread the thought of getting on them after I haven't known for a whole week.

Geez.... LOL

Hey Froggie, thanks so much for putting this up - it was interesting reading.  From the moment I started TF I locked away my scales and make it a rule that I only weigh myself at the TF store each week when I get my shakes, that way I am less likely to sabotage myself with any normal fluctuations during the week (that's my logic anyways lol).  I didn't know about the water retention in muscles - I guess that's why it is so important to stay hydrated, because if we dehydrate our muscles it will probably result in a gain in the next week as the muscles soak up the right amount of water again.  The human body is such an amazing and intricate machine!!  He he he

Thanks Froggie for posting this information about the water.  I have been working out 3 times a week on a circuit, and walking approximately 45 minutes each day.  But I am having trouble with water, my fingers are swollen, this is usually because of the warmer weather.  I try to drink my quota of water but it has not been easy in the cooler months.  I have high blood pressure, and the doctor is trying me on some tablets that have a fluid component to it, so I hope these work.  Some times my stomach seems swollen as well, which is frustrating considering that I workout regularly, it's so frustrating not being able to reduce the size of my stomach.

Cheers.

Me too.  I always though a daily weigh was a good idea, provided you were just looking for an overall pattern or trend that involved small losses - nothing big.  Maybe I was wrong.  It's weird though, as I never weigh myself when I have my head in the sand about my eating habits, I don't want to acknowledge it and when I do decide to take action I find that hopping on the scales kicks me back into gear.

I think that is why weight yourself everyday is not a good idea, because the weight does fluctuate this can be a disaster to your motivation if you expect to lose something and then you gain.  I think weight once a week is preferable.

cheers

Gee I am pleased to read this. I have rampt up the exercise and had an issue with not eating enough and the scale has not moved this week. After a 3.9kg loss last week that could be a downer but I am going to go with letting my body get used to the gym and all the extra walking/running.

Patience is the key I believe.

Happy TFing all..!
