| I would have to disagree with you Tara. As its all about how hard you work. You can spend longer on the equipment if you like It's all up to you. I have also in corporated other exercise into my gym routine like swimming, cycling and also walking/running. They recommend this to you from the start.

| If you dont like mainstream gyms, have never been to a gym and feel uncomfortable.. Then Contours would be a good place to start... But dont finish there.. It is repetitive, most staff arent qualified, and you will plateau quickly.. Try Fernwood. They are a women's mainstream gym, so you wont feel intimidated and the classes do add variety...
Take Two....

Starting Weight - 81.7kg
Goal Weight - 70kg (or there abouts)
 Goal weight - 75kg
My first attempt till Christmas hit...

| I tried Fernwood about 15 months ago for a week trial (at 103kg's) & even though it is not meant to be intimidating at all - I still found it to be - so many pretty young things there in their little gym clothes & me in my big baggies feeling like a whale - I couldn't do it. I joined Contours about 5 weeks ago (at 87kg's), and most weeks i have been going 3-4 times. I don't feel intimidated at all - the ladies there are all either the same age or older than me (37) and for the first time in my life i have felt comfortable at a gym (I've probably been a member at 5 gyms in the past (and never fully utilised any of these memberships). While it may seem repetitive you very quickly learn to adjust your workout to your own ability - for example when doing the cardio stations you do harder exercises each week - or work at a faster intensity - or incorporate hand weights - or include extra exercises such as skipping rope or fit ball - it's totally up to the individual person to push themselves - and this is the same no matter what gym you go to. the 29 minute workout is obviously their selling strategy - but no one says you have to stop there. Who knows, perhaps when i get down to my goal weight or near enough I may try fernwood again and have a totally different opinion about it - but then I won't have all the mental baggage as well as the physical baggage to drag there! Cheers Marzi xx

| I just recently joined a contours that is owned by two brothers. The trainers are all female but the boys come in on occasion to run Fitness info sessions, give nutrition advise, program design and modification and just general support. At first I was a bit sceptical but they have been a real asset and made my exercise journey a lot more efficient. I was wondering what other opinons on this would be? I started out being really unfit but now I am happier healthier and ready to conquer the world.
