| Hi all, I to have PCOS and am amazed how many other peoples lifes appear to be just like mine once was. From the age of 17-23 I was told I would never have children and as the pain was often so debilitating the DR's reccomended a hysterectomy. Luckily my mother talked me out of it! At age 26 I was shocked to find my husband and I were expecting. We had a beautiful baby girl but my problems continued. My weight was 99kgs before I fell pregnant and balloned at its highest to 109kg's. I went to see an endocrinologist who tested my blood and told me I was insulin resistant( as many of you are) I commenced on metformin and a low GI diet. 12- 18months later I was 85kg's and have remained this weight for the past 2-3 years! My periods have been regular for a few years now when before I would bleeed for 80-90 days and the pain was un bearable. Metformin, weight loss and a low GI diet really did save me! While this is a good result I am still over weight for my BMI my goal is to reach 75kg's( or so I thought and then I read the BMI table and it said 70-72kg's. So I started the programme 4 weeks ago at 87kgs and am now 81kgs. So I will re evaluate at 75kg and see! To all of you suffering I know it is a very lonely condition an aillment no one sees and few understand, hang in there try and loose the weight and support each other! Life can be so much better!!!!!!

| Hi there, I am new to the TF and am glad to see that others out there are going through the same thing. Not that I wish PCOS on anybody, it's really hard to deal with as not alot of Doctors know how to manage it. I am just starting the program today and am hoping to lose about 25-30kgs and am really excited about starting. I hope this is the last time I have to try and do anything. The bad thing about PCOS is that is so very very easy to gain weight and am almost impossible to lose. But I remain optimistic about my journey and wish everyone out there the best of luck with theirs. I hope to get back to you all after my first week and let you know how it goes.
:-)

I myself also have PCOS. However I was one of the fortunate ones and found out after I had my two children.
I had regular periods right upto the point where I could tell you the exact minute that I was going to get them. I did always suffer huge period pain to the point that I was having ultrasounds all the time to ensure that I didn't have cysts on my ovaries. The downside was that unless I worked my arse off and ate very minimal the weight just never shifted. I did WW when I was 17 and went from 82kgs to 63kgs.
When I was pregnant with my first I was back upto 81kgs but due to throwing up 24/7 (couldn't even suck an icecube without it coming back up) I got down to 70kgs before the dr's really stepped in and put me on trial medications to stop it. Again with my second the throwing up made me loose 6kgs.
Again without being able to shift the weight and only after my periods were 3 months late (and I wasn't pregnant) that the dr finally did blood tests to find out that I had PCOS. I was advised that a low carb diet, exercise and at this stage going on the pill to regulate my periods was the go. It has made the decision of whether to try for more kids alot easier (we did but we didnt) and now a reason to stay on this diet.
Funny thing was when I told my mum (while trying to disguise the fact that maybe I was pregnant) she told me that she had it and found out after she had my little sister. She had many operations to remove her ovaries due to cysts appearing and bursting and in the end (at age 36) she had to have a hysterectomy. I don't know if this is something that I will suffer in the years to come (I'm 27) but at least now I have a heads up. My two younger sisters show the symptoms but are too scared to be tested - reality is too hard for them to contemplate at the moment.
Sorry for my ramble but I wish everyone the best of luck and hope one day the stork will deliver you a precious bundle.

Hi there, I too am another one with POCS, my sister was telling me her symptoms after she found out she had it and i thought it sounded like i had it too, and yes i was right. I had been trying for another baby for more than 18mths, wit my first child i fell pregnant whilst on the pill!! so i thought me not being able to get pregnant was a little strange. My doctor reffered me to a specialist to run more test etc, and just my luck the day before my appointment i found out i was pregnant, my daughter is now nearly 18mths old. After my daughter was born i thought my POCS may have gone away as my excessive hair growth had gone. but now it's back so i think i still have it. I never really had any period pain but lately i am and it can get quite uncomfortable, my weight has gotten out of control so now TF will hopefully help. Sometimes things can change for you and i think i just got lucky when i found out i was pregnant so any of you out their trying keep positive cause it may just happen for you when you least expect it.

| Hi Everyone, I'm a newbie to the TF forum (starting the plan next week - eeks!) and yes, I have PCOS as well. It was discovered when I was around 17 (am 28 now). My beautician noticed the dark hairs on my chin and suggested I get my hormone levels checked. I did that then an ultrasound and voila, they found I had PCOS. I've read a lot of women talk about it being a struggle, while I just find it annoying. I took the pill for years to regulate my periods and then went on implanon (the implant) which stopped my period all together. Right now I'm on nothing. I was on the pill until last month but I'm terrible at remembering to take it! I plan on going back onto implanon for birth control reasons. My main symptons are, of course, weight, irregular hair growth and sometimes hair loss. I'm lucky in regards to I've never tried to have children and my partner and I are very undecided on if we want them at all, so it's a non-issue for me. I'm also lucky where my lovely boyfriend is in his final year of medical school so he understands what I've got and isn't wigged out by the hair growth. He is also supportive of my frustrations with weight loss and lets me try whatever I want too. Ok, that's my little intro. I look forward to getting to know you all a little more as we go along!
~~~~~~~~~~ 2nd time around - start: 13.01.09
 V-Day Goal: 135kgs
| Hi Gals I also have PCOs and so does my mum. yep i was lucky to get that part of her.. :-) Anyways, just wanted you to be aware that there is the Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Association of Australia website, www.posaa.asn.au where there is also a forum for every to chat about pcos. as you may have all gathered every single woman is affected differently by this condition. i was diagnosed at 23 (i think) now 26 going on 27. i actually only had a few follicles on my ovaries (please note its not actually cysts its follicles that havent released themselves for some unknown reason) at the time, i had been on the pill for a number of years by then, so my gp feels that i kept it all under control. I was obese though and hormones were out of whack and thats why i was diagnosed, besides family history. when growing up i was regular, so that for me, wasnt/hasnt been an issue so far. i am obese (well i was when i signed up to TF abt 4/5 wks ago if you follow that stupid BMI scale, as you can tell i dont, cos its about 40yrs old and its not really a nice scale to go by) now overweight, have hair in places i wish i didnt have, mood swings from hell, depression, plus my hormones are out of whack. currently im off all medication to give my body a break and ttc (if it happens it happens, if it doesnt it doesnt). talk to you all soon squeaks
Main Goal
Mini Goal 1
| Hi, I've known that I had the condition since I was 13, now 28 and with 2 kids of my own. It's not easy and like others it runs in my family, my sister and cousins also have it. I lost a few pregnancies but they always gave me the hormone bust I needed to have the 2 I've got. I have hair where I don't want it and not enough where I do. Now I'm going though night sweats and the only symptom I can't stand to live with is the weight. So here we all are taking some small part of control of this disorder back and how great does that feel. Women have if tough but then as my sister says "God knew we were the ones to handle it" I think she's right. Luv Liss Week 1 - 1.4kg loss
