| Hi All, We're starting this thread because we're interested in finding out what keeps you all motivated to continue your weightloss journeys through the colder months. Is it knowing that the warmer months will be on us sooner than we think and you want to get into that lovely summer dress you've been looking at? Does making yummy vegie soup out of the allowed vegies and being able to eat as much of it as you like make it easier to stick with the program during winter? Tell us about why you've started the program in winter or what keeps you motivated to stay on the program during the colder months and what obsticles you feel you may experience or may already have experienced. Please talk about any ideas you have on what could make the winter weightloss journey a little easier.
Kind regards,WoodyB Tony Ferguson Staff
Thanks Mally

i prefer losing weight in winter, because it gets me out into the warm sun for walks, rather then sitting cold and miserable on the couch all day and putting off exercising

This forum keeps me motivated, distracted from those naughty comfort foods and is an endless resource of support and information. There is no way i would have made it this far without this site.
The colder nights so far are much harder. The temptation to curl up on the couch with something quick and easy (and usually really bad) is greater because for me, i just dont feel as energised to cook and prepare the 'good food' so the soup is a saviour as well!
Just my two cents worth,
Cheers everyone!

| Hi There, I started the program 3 weeks ago, just as it has been getting freezing cold at night! (lol i live in newcastle nsw so cold to me is 12 degrees overnight and still in the low 20s in the day! ) I work nights so have been having lots of homemade soups with veges, (decaf) coffees and my chocolate shakes warmed up! yum!! plus the cookbook has been great, lots of nice winter meals (Sheppards pie, cassarole etc) in there that supprissingly i can cook (previously my cooking abilities have included toast and maggi noodles) so even my partner is loving me being on TF. Walking the dog in the nice afternoon sun (before it goes down at 5pm!) has been good, but mostly its the thought that every winter i sit in front of the TV and eat and feel horrible when i know summers around the corner, and every spring i know its too late to loose weight before summer! Not this year- I will be at the beach every day in my bikini without worry what other people are thinking- and without worry about my clothes not fitting another year around! Finally i think its easier without the smell of BBQ'S everywhere! Take care and good luck to everyone else out there!! Jill

| I'm finding it much harder doing the diet in the winter. I think I got really used to the convenience of a salad in the warmer months. Salads are much quicker to prepare. I've started cooking things up in the slow cooker such as lamb shanks and chicken curry which feeds me for several days. Also last nite cooked up some of the vege side dishes from the TF cookbook - the mushrooms were divine and also the tomatoes were wonderful. Its just more time consuming to make warm food, but worth it. I'm also having to plan my days so that I get up earlier to shop and walk the dog before the rain and cold hit in the afternoons. I think my weight is staying the same, will have to check it on the weekend.

| Hi there. Interesting question. For me, a couple of things are keeping me motivated: I have a cruise booked in September. (Want to have great pics) I decided 2008 would be great. (Want to have a fit future) Also, I have a precious darling who keeps threatening a wedding every couple of months and as I already have 1 set of fat ex-wedding photos, I will not have another set. So, getting trim for that future event too subliminally. Also, my health is worth it and as I'm heading for 40, I feel like time is marching by and don't want to spend all my life this shape. I have the rest of my life organised - home, car, family, but my weight was an issue that just erupted out of control through just not caring what other people thought and no matter what the doctor said, I wasn't inspired to do it for myself before. The next size up was always available, but now I've hit 24 and bigger than that is hard to come across. I've also heard it's harder to lose excess weight after 40, so feel that I've realised just in time to do something about it for me and my own other reasons. I love to travel and want to do more and aeroplane and bus seats aren't loving me much now, neither are the theme park ride seats which makes me really cranky as I love all the rollercoasters and rides. As I check through the forum I usually sit with glasses of water, now it's salt reduced chicken stock and that helps get my water intake under control. OK, so it's not a couple, it's a lot of reasons to be motivated! Life provides us all with a heap of reasons to do this program and when I put them all in one place it makes me wonder why I let myself get into this state in the first place, and then again glad that I'm here as I have tried other things that didn't work before. This does and I believe I can truly get to my goal with this program - Don't let me down TF! So it's not just winter it seems, it's life that's my inspiration. Wanting to live a thinner, easier, and by consequence healthier life. Sorry for the ramble.

| Hi all, Summer salads are definitely awesome. Can't stand the thought of too much lettuce right now - am cold, cold, cold all the time. What I do love the thought of is how much better I will look and how healthy I will feel when it comes time to strip off the 50 layers of clothes I currently wear and wear some exciting new clothes come spring and summer when I reach my goal. It's like a butterfly emerging from the drab, dull coccoon. The analogy works big time for me. Kim.

| I love all the great recipes that Tony Ferguson has available for winter. e.g shepards pie with notatoes is the best and minestrone with meatballs, chicken casserole, irish stew and all the great soups that you can make at home and have unlimited are awesome. I make a few on the weekends, when I have time and make large batches and freeze them in chinese containers I got from the catering shop. It makes life so much easier then having to prepare salads and other things everyday. I find this to be so cosy in winter. The best thing of all is over winter you can hide your weightloss under layers and when you come to the warmer months, than you can reveal your new body. I can't wait till that happens, what a surprise all my friends will get when they see the changes that are going to, and have already happened.
Beauty under the layers

what motivates me? I'd like to say getting healthy and lowering my risk of heart disease, diabetes etc... but i am not that nobel! I want to wear the latest fashion! you know the whole shirt and belt or dress and belt? well, it would look a whole lots better if i didnt have a tyre around my waist! it is pretty awful to admit that i am that superficial. losing weight makes me feel better about my self and about my body. I have have a rough idea of the outfit i will buy when i lose weight and that motivates me.
also, my boyfriend and i am moving in together in september. we have been together for 4 years and when he met me i was thin, young and beautiful. Needless to say.. things dont last forever... But i am determined that to start the next part of our life together, i want to look and feel fab. (I am a bit worried as to how im going to maintain this because from what people have told me, people tend to put on weight when they live with partners.... ill have to see when i reach mainence)
