I get wind from Maltitol (is there any sugar free stuff that doesn't contain this?) and was just drinking caffiene free diet coke and so decided to look up on artifical sweeteners. I use Stevia (as I thought it was the best) in my Thai salad dressing (only had it a couple of times) and after reading this article http://www.healthbrands.com.au/topics/health/news/additives+and+ingredients/sweeteners+natural+vs+artificial.htm it seems as Splenda is the best. I don't drink a lot of the diet type drinks but just felt like a coke last week and the 2L was on special. Should I stop drinking this stuff and should I chuck out my Stevia as it might impact on my weight loss?

I am confused..... Any advise appreciated.

You will find for and against arguments for every sweetener on the market.

IMO, i think it is more important to focus on taste and price, rather that worry about all the arguments as to which is best.

I dont use any sweeteners but plenty of people i know like Xylitol and No-Cal (which contains 100% Erythritol) as well as Stevia. Its a personal preference.

Thanks for your thoughts. I might look out for No-Cal the next time I am in the shops. Might try that with baking. But I think I will try and keep away from artificial sweetener as much as I can though.

They all have pros and cons.

The only thing to be really aware of is that Aspartame (Equal) is not heat stable, even though they sell it for coffee

I use Splenda for cooking and avoid Maltitol if I can.

Aspartame is the worst. It's banned in the US to be used in diet soda. It's a carcinogen and it makes you hungry and crave carbs. Also a bitter aftertaste.

Equal and Sweet N' Low are aspartame. Also additive 951.

Splenda is good because it's made of sugar. But remember, 1 sachet of splenda = 1 carb. It's more natural and has no bitter aftertaste.

All artificial sweeteners have some minimal side effect, alternate them, and remember, just because it's on the internet doesn't mean it's 100% true.

p.s. you only need 5% fact to make a story believable.
