Download (16/11/2009)
kristi84 (17/11/2008)
Hi, just thought I would put my 2 cents worth in... I was on Duromine for three months, and I didn't have any problems, its not "speed" as such, but as usual people liken it to speed, a common misconception

Actually I have to disagree kristi84, the chemical composition of Duromine is virtually identical to it's street version, Speed. As with Speed some people will have a reaction to it, some people won't. I suspect you're simply one of the people that have a certain natural resistance to it like me. I looked into it a lot when I first went onto Duromine. It's that close in composition that if you're pulled over by the police for random drug testing they still have to peg you for drug use even if you have a prescription for it because they can't confirm which drug it is. They have a similar effect on most people and therefore makes you a hazard on the road.

Personally I found Duromine too expensive and my body adapted to it really quickly. I spent about $500 on it over 3-4 months because by the end I was going through the highest strength and I was supposed to be using one pack a month. I was going through a pack every two weeks. It just didn't do that much to me by the end. I changed to TF and haven't looked back. It's cheaper, doesn't bug you out or mess with your head, and it keeps working for the most part lol.

Ditto Download - Duramine is clinically an amphetamine, i.e. same composition as speed.  Whether it is on prescription or sold on the street (which duramine is by the way) is irrelevant.   Like any drug or alcohol, everyone will respond different and not everyone will experience all contraindications   :O)

Although I think this topic is now a debate and not what it was originally intended for... My 2 cents.

I work in ICU. Pts on duromine generally need similar doses of sedatives and narcotics to speed addicts. The composition of speed is unknown to me as I have never taken it or looked into it, but even the docs call it 'diet speed'. Same as ritalin is 'baby cocaine'.

Having said that, choosing to take any medication/drug is a risk and can have side effects. This has to be weighed against the potential benefits. As long as your decision is based on well researched facts, advice and given due consideration... Your choice.

Some people use dope, ice, speed etc, others use alcohol, caffeine and nicotine. Or sugar and fat. I'm sure we have all made stupid decisions/choices. Please don't criticise others unless you have walked in their shoes, and are 'pure as fresh snow'.

My choice, my decision, my way, in my time.

Are you taking Duromine as well as being on the TF program?

My only suggestion (as an ex-duromine taker) is to take it easy when you're exercising. Quite often it's difficult to keep your body's physical limitations in mind because quite simply you feel like you have far more energy than normal. That's just because of the nature of the drug, it will tend to make you feel like you can do more than you should. Not everyone will have that problem, but I think better safe than sorry really. If you have a heartrate monitor for your treadmill, or even a heartrate watch, that's a fantastic way to keep it in check.

So when you DO exercise, just keep in mind how much you would normally be able to do and stay around that. Even if you feel like you can do more don't go much past that because you'll be putting your body under stress that you may not realise it's under simply from the feel good/speedy effect duromine can have.

I apologise if it seemed as if I was trying to cause a debate, I really wasn't. I just want everyone who considers the drug to have all the facts simply because no one wants a drug driving charge on their record because their doc never informed them of the laws! My doctor didn't tell me, I found out through research and asking a family member that's a police officer so it never hurts to be informed
I suspect that many people will have formed their own opinions without knowing everything they could about the drug. Some people think it's the easy way out and for some it is. But for some like me it just ended up being a waste of my hard earned dollars. I lost about 5kg on it and then it just sort of stopped working . And there is a negative stigma involved with it because it IS so close to the street drug. But the fact of the matter is that every drug ever known to man has been initially created with the intention of being healing or improving. Look at heroin! You used to be able to buy bottles of the stuff to control migraines and "hysterical behaviour in women".  *throws hands in the air* Lol.

The important thing is that as long as you aren't abusing it, you'll be fine. There is a risk of addiction. Be aware of it, and wary of it. There is also the risk that it will be damaging to your heart or nervous system. Get checked regularly by your doc. Basically be responsible with it and it won't bite you on the bum *chuckle*.

I didn't see this topic as a debate at all.  Everyone is just sharing their knowledge and experience that's what a forum is for.

I wish anyone the best in whatever they decide.  Sooooo many options with success and pitfalls for all of them.

Hi everyone, thanks for your responses. I have certainly weighed up all options and researched it thoroughly on the net as wel and spoke in depth to my doctor about it as well. This is my 3rd day, and i am feeling fine, no feeling of heat palpitations or dizziness or neausea. I am not feeling energised either though, but i know as i start to lose weight i will feel more motivated, its always just the first 5 kg that i struggle keeping my motivation. I have been struggling with my weight for such a long time, and we want to have kids in a year or so and i dont want to be this big when we have them. I am going to do TF from today on the duromine as well - i was just waiting to see how i felt for the first couple of days before starting, but everything seems to be ok.

So i guess everyone is different and everyone will have different side effects and results, i just hope that they give me a good kickstart. So i will keep you guys posted, thanks for the encouraging messages

Hi everyone!
I came across this and thought I'd put my two cents worth in as well. I have been taking Duromine for the past 4 months now under the strict monitoring of my GP which I would recommend to anyone taking any form of weightloss medication! To date I have lost 17kgs and no this didn't happen overnight, you still need to watch what you eat and when. (I was on TF for 6 months last year and only managed to lose 8kgs but put it straight back on and more when I stopped!!)

Duromine does belong to the same "family" as speed however I can honestly say I haven't had any major issues whilst taking the tabs. Yes I did suffer from a dry mouth in the beginning - easily solved by drinking more water which is what you need to be doing to lose weight anyway.
Yes I did feel more awake during the day but had no probs sleeping at night!

For the first time in a long time, I actually began to feel like the old me, the full of beans me that I had started to lose whilst dealing with two little children and a husband suffering from major depression not to mention dramatic weight gain due to emotional/comfort eating.
I now have the get up and go to do what I need to do during the day. I still feel tired at times but am able to push myself through that to get everything done. I can't say that I don't get hungry, I do, but my portions are half that of what I used to eat and I don't graze anymore. The cravings for high carbs and anything sugary or greasy have also deminished...that's not to say that I don't feel like eating anything I shouldn't but these days a small square of chocolate is just as satisfying as half a block used to be!

I noticed someone mentioned anxiety - there were times that I did feel slightly more anxious and edgy than usual - but my doctor had warned me that this might be a side effect so I was able to recognise when this occurred and able to supress it.....that was only in my first month. I can honestly say I haven't had any issues since!

Hope this info helps.....I always find people are so quick to denounce weightloss meds but for some of us, it really is the only option left to us - I have been off Duromine now for almost a month. I am still losing weight and still have no signs of my appetite returning to what it was previously. I still have 10 kilos to lose and my doctor has recommended another month of Duromine 30mg and then a month of Reductil 15mg.

One thing to note: I haven't used TF whilst on Duromine apart from the Breakfast shakes. Although I am using the recipe books for the low carb meals...

Good luck to you all! We'll all get there in the end by whichever means works best for each....!
