One of the things I miss on TF is mashed potatoes so I thought I would have a go at what is known of in Low Carb Land as fauxtatoes. There seems to be a number of versions to be found by googling, some use sour cream, some use cream, some use cheese, some use cream cheese, some use butter and some use a combo of the above.

I don’t know how successful the results would be using the allowed ricotta or cottage cheese but all I had on hand was Philly Light so I used that.

I used a whole cauli (smallish size), cut into florets and steamed till just tender. Then I tossed it into the food processor with a small clove of roasted garlic (optional) and a level tablespoon of Philly Light and processed till smooth.

Seriously, it looks like mash potato, has the consistency of mash potato and strangely tastes quite similar.

Once I teamed it up with my bbq’ed porterhouse and fried onions (oil spray only) and I thought it was mashed potatoes...it was so good.

Please note that Philly cheese is not allowed but I only used a level tablespoon (40 cals/ 0 carbs) and I will get 4 good serves out of this so this works out to 10 cals a serve.

Next time I make it I will go a bit easier on the garlic and seeing as how we are allowed to have a teaspoon of butter on our veg I will trade the philly for butter and see how that goes.

Now my mind is wandering towards a TF friendly Shepherds Pie or TF friendly Tuna Patties

Hi Ava,

That fake mash sounds great. I think if we tried the cottage or ricotta, it might have the same result. I love cauliflower, and I blend it up in a lot of my soups, it thickens it heaps. I might have a go at this tomorrow.

As cauliflowers can get quite expensive during the year. Now that they are selling cheaply, I buy a few and freeze them in portions.

Thanks for the ideas.

Sounds good, I'll have to try it. I have tried the cauli rice that has been posted on a previous thread and it is good also. Actually I have had it with beef curry and it is delicious and great for winter. An easy way of getting your vegies. Thanks for the tip.

Hi guys

These posts have got me a thinkin' LOL

YES the sherpherds pie thing sounds great....also what do you think about adding a couple of tablespoons of the Leggo's stir through ricotta and spinach sauce throughthe cauli????

PLEASE dont forget the salmon patties, my mum used to make those when I was a kid (poor thing had to take out all bones and black stuff before i'd eat them) but they were delicious!!!!!!!!!  When I left home and got married I used ot buy her tins of salmon to make me up a bunch!!!!  I want to share them with my kids too.

OMG!!! This so yummy, used a small amount of  the Leggo Stir through Ricotta and spinach sauce to give it a creamy consistency.

I cant stand cauliflower, this tasted nothing like it.  Was just like mashed potatoes with a slight herby taste.

Well I tried making salmon patties and they kind of bombed. Now the flavour thing was fabbo, they tasted just like I'd had them pre TF but I could not get them to form into patties. I still ate it but it was salmon splatties.

I know we can't use flour to bind them together so I shall wait for your recipe to be posted and then have another go.
