Following on from Mrs Flea's post re: her husbands MASSIVE anniversary it got me thinking... I wondered what everyone does for living?

As for me, I'm an Executive Personal Assistant.  I've previously had wonderful roles that challenged my senses and have been surrounded by passionately driven people in both the fashion industry and personal development education.  Unfortunately it also took up most of my life.  In 2007, after over 10 years living in a whirlwind and for various personal reasons, I took a very long break and then decided it would be great to have a role where once I had left the office that was that.

Careful what you wish for.  That's exactly what I got and I'm bored out of my head in a manufacturing industry that still operates like it's 1972. No one develops to anything and no one enjoys their job.  They simply seem to exist for the dollar and I'm not used to that.

I'm looking for a new role in 2009 with a more dynamic team.

What do you do?

Hi Sandra,

I am currently a receptionist at an indoor swimming pool & have been there about 13 years. I am also currently studying an advanced diploma in local, family & applied history & this has lead me to my current second job where I am a research assistant for a history book that is being written.

I also served a 4 year apprenticeship as as a wigmaker from the age of 15 & also have my trade certificate in hairdressing & still keep my hand in in both of these. I bought the wigmaking business after my boss retired & would know my work if you were into Australian movies, theatre & television in the 70s & 80s. I still call myself a wigmaker. I also had a brief stint in retail & had my own gift shop for a while too.

Being 17 I'm not currently employed, am a student though, I'll be in Grade 12 this year (Tasmania has a weird education system, mainly that we include a 'prep' grade between kindergarten and grade 1, which means extra year of schooling). I do have a career plan in mind though, but I'll be taking a year off when I finish College to do whatever the hell I want

Losing weight to be a police officer in Tasmania, one of the most gruelling job application processes ever.

I work in the IT industry as a Service Desk Manager. So basically I manage a HelpDesk that gets calls all day about computer problems. Last year I left one of the top 500 companies where I was in the same role. But the managers above me were wankers and it was heaps stressful. Now I work 10 minutes from home and in a much calmer environment, I love it.

If I had my way I would leave work and sit and do  my craft all day, but the mortgage has other ideas. I just love making cards , hence the url at the bottom of my signature for my ebay shop. I love scrapbooking, xstitch, anything carfty really. In the next couple of years we are thinking of moving to qld to be closer to may ageing parents, and be mortgage free. If that happens I plan to expand my ebay shop and sell home made furnishings etc.

My Progress

9th Jan 09 = 77.5kg (my starting weight)

11th Jan 09 = 75.9kg

15th Jan 09 = 75.5kg

22nd Jan 09 = 74.9kg

30th Jan 09 = 74.7kg (that will teach me, no more cheating!!)

5th Feb 09 = 73.9kg

12th Feb 09 = 73.7kg

19th Feb 09 = 73.9kg (mmmm, what did I say about cheating)

26th Feb = 74.2kg ( I think I have fallen off the wagon a bit, maybe a lot!!)

Im a level 2 IT helpdesk officer. Ive only just started this role about 6 months ago because before this I was a document controller and PA in the contruction industry.  Thank god I got out of that just in time for all the big building companies to go belly up.  I love IT so I really like this job and I work in education sector of it so its fun listening to teachers that are supposed to be teaching our children say to me "Whats email?".

Thanks heaps

Little Sprocket

I am a small business owner with two retail outlets. One is strictly glass and the other is pretty girly things.
I have done a lot of things and a lifetime ago I completed an apprenticeship as a telephone technician working in a telephone exchange. I was a driving instructor for a long time, very boring job. I was a postie once too. Barmaid,PA, secretary, sold encyclopedias door to door, day care worker, fabric shop owner, the list goes on..............

Taking it one day at a time!!!!
