Hey all!

I was chatting to a friend who is studying Human Movement at Uni to become a Profesional Sports Coach/Trainer. I asked her what the fastest PROVEN method of weight loss is in terms of cardio and she told me that interval training is the go!

Now, I already knew that BUT there is a bit of a difference in the weight loss interval training compared to the toning and shaping training. I have previously been doing the shaping & toning which explains why I kept gaining so much muscle and definition!!!

She told me to do the following 2-3times a week. The nights im not doing interval training she told me to walk for 20mins + at a speed of 5.5 - 6.5km/hr

Thought some of you might like to give it a crack- she is FIT as and this is her routine and also what they were taught at Uni

Treadmill Interval Training

TOTAL  20mins

1-10 mins. Fast walk @ 5.5 – 6.5 km/hr

10-20 mins: Run 30 seconds, walk 1min, run 30seconds, walk 1 min for remainder of time

Run speed: 9 – 9.5 km/hr

Incline: 2%

2-3 times per week

Thanks,

I have been vey slack with my exercise lately and started back on my treadmill this morning.  I walked for half an hour at 5 km /hour.  it was pretty easy going and I was going to step it up a bit tomorrow.

So Tomorrow I am going to give this a go and see how I go.  I have never run on my treadmill before so that will be interesting.  Hope I don't fall off.

Rosebud how did you do?  I love this training!!! This first session I did the lowest and have advanced with each session!  It is good because you see results rather quickly which is what I like to see

Hi there.  Well I started with the walking at 5.5 kph and then tried to crank it up to the run speed but I am such a clutz and my balance is shit so I was really scared to run on the treadmill.  I really felt like I would fall over so I turned it down and walked the rest of my half hour at 5.5 kph.  I have done that everyday this week.

Yesterday I altered the angle on the treadmill and it is set like uphill now which I really felt the difference.  I have decided to just keep up the walking for now until I get a little more used to the treadmill thing.  I really want to try the running again though at some point.

I have copied your post and kept it for future reference.  Thanks

Hi, i have been slacking off exercise for a few days cause i knew i was gonna be busy and keeping myself moving! I must say that i want good and not too fast results that i might give this one a try!

I remember from a few years ago when i went to the gym that it is pretty similar with the jogging and walking, but they did it like this: walk 5mins, jog 1min, walk 5mins, jog 1min and so on for a half hour! I was good but i couldn't keep up! (but that was the excuse i was giving myself)

I am going to get brave and try this routine! I will let you know how i go too!!!!!

Interval can be adjusted to your fitness-believe me I felt unco on the first session but after that-the second session was a breeze.  I also do a lot of toning and strength classes so that MAY account for my balance but really, you just need to actually WANT IT so I say GO FOR IT GUYS!!!!!

Interval train like no one is watching

Just wanted to say after lizzy's recommendation I decided to do an interval training program on my treadmill this morning. Talk about killer! I was fine for the first 10 minutes, but after that I was pretty stuffed for the rest of it.

The program that I did was 50 seconds on 6.4km (which is literally the fastest I can walk without breaking into a run) and then down to 4.0 for 30 seconds, for fourty minutes. I realise it's not quite the same but I'm VERY unfit and I didn't have it on an incline. I'm buggered now but in a good way. I'm glad I got a tready that has interval programs, it'd drive me nuts having to change the speed every 30 seconds to 1 minute :S

But I'm definately going to keep doing things that way, it gave me a great work out and I whilst I felt like I was working hard I didn't have to dial it back.

interval training is a fantastic idea, but if your only just starting out definatly dont go for too long and I would suggest a slower speed, 9km is more for people that have a good base line fitness. When im on the tready I alternate between the interval, cal burner and fat burner modes and i feel i get a good workout over the course of the week.
