Hi, tomorrow I'm going to do our weekly shop and need some "essentials" that get you throughout the program...I'm fairly strapped for cash so I have $50 for meat and $50 for veg for 3 people. For example, cauliflower is high on the list I think, because it is so versatile for things like rice and "notatoes".

Any others????

Thanks

Definitely Cauliflower and whatever is in season. At the moment, I have been buying heaps of eggplant, zuchinni, capsicum, mushroom and brocolli. Meat. I would get a whole chicken as it is cheaper and you can make a couple or more meals with it for the family. I like my beef as well. For the cheaper cuts, you can make stew or curry with it in the slow cooker, make sure you cut away all the fats or use a cut with the least fat. Lamb seems to be the most expensive unless it is on special. For fruits, you can't go past strawberries at the moment as they are lovely and sweet (and cheap) and you can have 15-20 per fruit serve. Plus I stock up on apples, oranges and pears.

Have fun shopping.
