Hi

As most of you know, I am on maintenance, and although you still lose weight, it is very gradual and slow.

I am stuck on 51.7 for 3 weeks now, and I am doing treadmill for 45 minutes every night and weights up to 5 kilos per arm

I am a little amazed that my weight has not shifted, eventhough I am not looking to lose much anymore, I was just curious to know what the treadmill will do for me.

I mainly want to tone up and become fimer in certain areas. What do you all recommend?

thanks

Angie XXXX

Hey Maddy,

I think I remember you mentioning you got into a pair of size 8 jeans.... Congrats!

In saying that, (and the fact that your on the maintenance program) your body isn't going to keep shredding the kgs every week, instead it'll probaby start gaining muscle. Therefore, the muscle gain is probably counteracting the weighloss, if any at this stage. (Muscle being heavier than fat).

So what does using the treadmill do for you? Well for one it is keeping your weight maintained buy using up engergy (calories) you sotre in your body daily (which is helping you maintain your current weight) and secondly it's benefical for your overall health. I.E. your heart, your fitness, your mind. Excercise generally makes you feel good all over. Inside and out.

So, even though you aren't noticing any dramatic changes yet - just remember that what your doing is going to help you in the long hall! If you're wanting to tone up, try some stengthening excercises. You haven't mentioned where or what you want to tone up, but do a little research online to get some basics..... or hire out a Yoga DVD. Yoga is really good for strengthening and toning.

I hope this helps! And once again, congrats on being on Maintenance!

Current Goal:

If you're looking for toning I would probably recommend something like tai chi or pilates. Running the miles is better for cardio, but you won't get as much toning from it

Sorry it took me so long to respond :/

Tai Chi and pilates are both exercises that are based on deliberate and repetative motions to build up your core strength using your own body weight as resistance. They're both low impact and will build flexibility as well. Pilates you need to either buy a DVD (which I don't recommend if you haven't had some form of dance training to help you understand correct positioning, it can be tricky to do the right thing if you're not used to it) or going to a pilates class at your local gym.

Tai Chi you can often find clubs for that don't charge you anything to participate, but you mostly learn from watching rather than being taught.
