so glad you told her  - I started my periods just before my 11th birthday - my mum hadn't told me and I thought I was dying .....

I totally agree with everything jodes said - it's just easier to get on with proper names from the start - and I spoke to my boys about it - they're now nearly 15 and 12  - and my nearly 15 year old has also had the sex talk at school and they were all given a couple of condoms - I nearly died at first - but - better to use one and be safe.....although he assures me that moment is way off........
