I got all my wisdom teeth out about a month ago and they have healed well. however, the sockets are still there and i am forever getting food caught in there which is really hard to get out. it grosses me out and is driving me nuts. anyone know how long its takes for the sockets to close?????

eflow*take3this time its coming off and STAYING off!

Hi Efllow

I had mine out when I was 19 (twenty years ago) and I went to hospital to get them out and I was stitched up.  So when the disolvable stitches fell out mine were closed.  Best advice I can give you is to wash your mouth out everytime you have something with warm salty water as this will prevent infections.  Yes it is yucky and tastes horrible but that was the advice given to me from the surgeon.

I can't believe they didn't stitch them closed Eve??!   Where did you go *bob the builder*    That doesn't sound right, I would be calling the dentist to ask - afterall, it's a hygiene issue if you're getting food stuck in there.  Perhaps they can stitch you up even now or at least tell you how long you can expect this for.

I still have all my wisdoms so I don't have experience on it sorry *I'd be freaking out as well eek*

i did get stitches but in front of the sockets. i asked why and they said they cut infront of the teeth and then pushed them up and out instead of just pulling them out so there was a smaller area of damage thus less pain. there is no open wounds but the sockets are still deep. ew, teeth are such gross little things lol.

might give the dentist a call on monday.

Let us know how you get on - yeah the tooth thing is gross! Hope they can sort it for you.

I'm not sure I would be able to cope getting wisdom teeth out, let alone the holes you're talking of eeeeek!

hi

I got mine out this time last  year - at the age of 39 - !

mine were stitched up but I had little dents where food would collect - a good mouth rinse with salty water is what my oral surgeon told me to do for a week - then the colgate anti bac wash - ask your chemist - sorry can't remember the name - and don't poke around - you don't want to get any infections in there!

good luck x

I had the same problem, called the oral surgeon & he supplied me with a syringe that had a curved end to it that you poke down the socket & it flushes out the food that's caught there.

He said some people aren't bothered at all by it - but it really bothered me so much - I was brushing & rinsing 5 times a day & still had food stuck there - gross!  I wish I had the syringe earlier it made a massive difference to me...

So hope this might help you or someone else
