After  7 months on TF I have managed to loose 22.5kg which is great. I was really frustrated though when I went to buy some new clothes to find I had only dropped one size. How do people who loose 6 kg manage to drop 3 sizes or more? The funny thing is that I do obviously look much slimmer so once again I guess it comes down to clothes sizes only being another number.

Cheers all best for the week ahead

Sue

The same thing happened to me this week. I've lost 15kg and gotten my waist back, but my bum and thighs seem to be just as big as before! So whilst I've gone from a size 16-18 top to a 14, my pants are still 16-18. Now that sounds pretty normal for someone that's pear shaped but I'm not! I'm hourglass shaped so I have NO idea how that works . My measurements have stayed in proportion so I just can't figure out why my pants size hasn't changed at all. I mean I know 4 months ago there's no way I could get the pants I tried on the other day to even go up my legs let alone buttoning them up, but they were still too tight around my thighs to be comfortable.

I blame the out of scale sizing that different stores have. I try on a top in kmart that's a 14 and it's smaller, but if I go to big w or katies they're always bigger. It does my head in because I HATE trying on clothes in shops (lots to do with a misguided childhood thinking I was fat when I wasn't) and because of that I'll often buy clothes without trying them on and have to return them after trying them on at home.

hey
yep i agree - i've almost lost 8kg and no change in clothes, maybe a slight bit looser but nothing dramatic. no one has even noticed my loss so far and i thought 8kg would show somewhere????

so confused with dress shops coz i can be a 12 in some pants, or 14-16 in others, tops 12 or 14 but yet i am still at least 10 kg from the top of my healthy weight range.

i cant see how much more i need to lose to be a comfortable 12 in everything in every shop. I wish shops were more universal or just went by measurements like guys clothes, then the size is just what it says and cant change.

It does take a while to be able to fit into smaller size clothes, but it will happen, just keep up the great work and you will reap the rewards.

I have gone from a size 24 to a size 12 and am loving clothes shopping

i hear your frustrations and i too believe the sizes should all be the same.. given that the cuts and material would determine how they fit.. but why should we put up with a size 12 thats a size of a size 8.. also has anyone noticed that tops seem to also be getting shorter. I have an apron, had it all my life but i struggle to get tops to come down to my crotch area..and im only 5 ft..I mean wouldnt we buy more clothes if we fit into the same size everytime instead of going up and down sizes?? I mean we wouldnt get down knowing we havent put on weight but yet your up in clothes, it feels grea when something fits and encourages you to try more and buy more

It's all about shape, rather than size.  Also depends hugely on the type of clothing you are used to wearing i.e. fitted or not.  Some women who don't have alot to lose can lose 6-7kg and drop heaps because they are used to more fitted clothing.  It's all relevant, and you've lost 22kg that you no longer have to drag about - that's the most important thing

I've lost 16kg so far - my top has gone down from size 26 to size 20, but my *** hasn't budged! lol... that's life, it will happen.

Congrats on your losses so far :O)

......ps, I don't think I noticed any change to the top half until I was past 15kg.....

Couldn't agree more -- I know it's frustrating but try to ignore the sizes and pay more attention to how you look in the clothes and how they feel   I can be anywhere from size 10 to size 16 depending on who makes the clothes!

Congratulations on the great weight loss.

Don't worry about the clothes. How do you feel? Great, I bet. Actually when I was losing lots at the beginning I kept my old clothes and let them be loose. Amazing how good it made me feel and honestly people noticed and commented.

Keep up the good work!

I too have lots of trouble with clothes.  I've lost around 14kg & I know I've gotten smaller but am still in 16 bottoms & 14 - 16 tops.  I did have to go and buy some 18 bottoms and still wear them even though they are too loose.  Some of the 16 pants I have don't anywhere near do up and others almost fall off.  Would be great if sizes for all brands & shops were the same!!

I heard a rumour not too long ago that they were planning to standardise sizings and changing them to American standards. I don't know how true that is, but it'd be awesome if they DID standardise! Somehow I doubt it really is going to happen though, I heard that rumour a couple of years ago and it doesn't seem that anything has happened yet. But I have noticed a lot of people talking about a size 0 in stores now which is an American sizing, so who knows?
