| Just needed to vent/share. Today I received news that a friend of my good friend John died yesterday (John also lost his friend Julie to suicide a couple of weeks ago...not a good month). Tiny (play on his stature of course) was anything but Tiny. I have no idea how much he weighed, but it would be in excess of 160kg I'm sure. I wasn't close to him, but bumped into him at every party and BBQ at John's place over the last 17 years or so. He was a good-looking man with a great sense of humour - he also seemed to grow and grow each time I saw him. He lost his parents at a very young age and called John's parents Ma and Da - they were his surrogate parents. As all ma's would, Johns mum used to encourage him to take of his weight and was worried about his ever increasing health issues and gynormity of size. His passion was his friends and fishing.....and of course food! I often think you 'can' be large and healthy and I believe size isn't everything, yet there is definately a line and there is a difference between plump and morbid obesity. They do call it 'morbid' obesity for a reason I suppose and as much as I would love to defend that being big doesn't necessarily cause health issues, it seems more and more evident that it probably does. Tiny was warned by Dr's that he wouldn't see 40 if he didn't do something about his health (he laughed it off), my dad was also fore-warned, sadly both Dr's were proven right. It's a very sad reminder to put my health before my waistline and try my best to put good fuel in. Our friend Tiny died yesterday, of a massive heart-attack, he was only 39 years old.
Rest in peace Tiny - you won't be forgotten. Edit - Pic added

RIP to Tiny. Recently my mother was told she wouldn't live another 5 years unless she did something about her weight, luckily she didn't laugh it off and has done something, but there are so many people who don't take this seriously and so often the Drs are right Thank goodness your mum listened Nikki, I don't think Dr's say stuff like that lightly. xx

| Sorry San, it seems so much harder when they are young and still have so much more of life to look forward too. If Tiny's story encourages just one person to make a difference, it will be a blessing. Rest in peace young man

| Wow I am in tears reading this, it really is a wake up call for not only me, but for, I am sure, many other members out there to get fit and healthy. Im also in tears because I worry about my mum and her weight issues and that she just cant seem to stick with anything to lose the weight, that she has given up on the battle....I guess thats one of the reasons why I want to lose the weight, firstly for myself, and then for my mum. Tiny, the world is sad to see you go so soon, you will truly be missed by the people that were close to you. R.I.P buddy!!

so sorry about your friend and working in the health industry as I do, it is shocking to see so many elderly people that are overweight and have many many problems with their health, some have exercised in their lives and some dont and yes they are always talking about their health issues - I spose they dont have much esle to talk about and the pharmacutical companies are laughing all the way to the bank, as it the local chemist man. As they are totally totally addicted to all their medications/chemcial ones at that and they take heaps of them everyday. Its a funny world we live in and we must really try hard to get our weights down, even if it is a lil. For every 1 kilo of weight that you put on your body ( weight gain ) your heart has to pump 2 times more to accomadate that 1 kilo. its not fun and games for the poor old ticker. I was told by my dr many yrs ago that if I kept putting on weight, my heart couldnt and wouldnt take the strain ( had heart op at 18yrs old ) So Ive been constantly monitering my diet since then.
STARTED TF ON 20/03/07 20/03/07 75.0 3.2 kg loss
16/11/09 - 64.5 ks 1/1/2010 - 68 kilos. Yeowch.. 8/1/10 - 66.1ks - down 1.9 kilos.yippeee. WATCH OUT, AS SOMETIMES LIFE GIVES YOU SUPRISES THAT YOUR'E JUST NOT READY FOR................ THE 'FATSUGARMONSTER' IS AT HIS BEST THIS TIME OF YR. BE STRONG AND BE DETERMINDED AND YOU CAN ACHIEVE ANTYHING.

I was told by my dr many yrs ago that if I kept putting on weight, my heart couldnt and wouldnt take the strain ( had heart op at 18yrs old ) So Ive been constantly monitering my diet since then. Thanks for your post Suzi - Health is far more important, I always see you as so young and slim looking anyway, but with an underlying heart prob I can see there's good reason you have to look after your weight the way you do :o) My Dad died early at age 62, if he was not morbidly obese he wouldn't have died at that moment - it's that simple. Dad couldn't even fit into the coffin I chose because of his size - one size DOES NOT fit all! But more importantly than just the weight, it's what was actually going in as well. My Dad (and my friend Tiny) lived a life on pies, takeaways, quick and easy trans-fat and sugar loaded items. I don't recall ever seeing a fresh vegetable or piece of fruit around (him and mum had separated). Mum and I were shocked when we saw dad's bank statement with the amount spent on takeout foods...daily! I'm grateful I don't quite eat in that manner, but the health benefits of losing as little as 10% of your body weight is worth the effort. - Do your best to put fresh/pure unprocessed foods into your body wherever possible. Whether your waistline is small or large your body will love you for not loading up with processed rubbish and will give you the energy you deserve.

| Thanks girls, I really can't believe he's gone just yet. We weren't close, yet it's really affecting me. I know my mum worries about my weight/health and I suppose at times Im onto it and other times I think "whatever"... Timely reminder that we can't put these things off forever and there are absolute real consequences to unhealthy diets. I so wish he had received the wake-up call he's now given me. Tiny probably had no idea how many people would be affected by his passing and just how many lives he's touched along the way.
