Hi everyone just wanting some opinions here.

I went to the drs today & had to have some blood tests to check my hormone levels, he said it sounded like i have depression.

I am 32 years old married , 2 boys age 8 & 5. For the last 4-5 months i have been having trouble with my monthlys like my boobs become so heavy i have to hold them to have a shower its that painful, sleeping in my bra etc, i can not stop crying , fly off the handle at my kids for silly reasons, then ( ashamed as i am to admit it ) sometimes get that frustrated i hit myself in the head, i feel like there is a war going on in there i can't handle it. I can't do any housework, struggle to get out of bed & get on with my day & usually sleep for 2-3hours thru the day.I usually finish work at midnight. Nothing has happened in my life to warrant these changes but as the months go it is getting harder to deal with.

I should get my blood tests back by monday, doc said something about a phsycologist if my bloods come back normal. What is wrong with me I don't really want to talk to anyone about it because i just start crying.

I will take on board any opinions/suggestions as it has taken me so long just to head to the drs & ask for help...has anyone else been in a similar situation?

Thanks for your understanding. (formerly katemjk)

Just hang on in there, you are sooooo not alone in this battle.  Did he prescribe any medications?

I have never had blood tests to confirm mine, but guess they are available, I dunno......good luck!!

(just checking - the dr isn't checking for pregnancy is he ??  - sore boobs, mood swings etc etc)

Hang in there until you get the results............it may not be depression - it may be a hormone in balance or some such.

I also saw my Dr for depression last year and he wacked me on antidepressants after a 2 minute consultation

I slowly came off them before Xmas last year, under Dr's supervision, and have had success with a naturopath and a counselor.

I strongly recommend going and talking to a counselor.

They are there for you, to help you through whatever crisis it turns out to be.

They aren't there to judge you, they remain objective.

Sometimes all you want is an ear to talk to and they offer that and other times they can be so much more.

I have been seeing one and the first 10 minutes of my first visit blubbered the whole story out, and I don't cry pretty!

Crying, when it happens is normal, and they will treat it as such.  (And sometimes just having a good old 'woe is me' cry is the release that we need to move on.)

You will find out what is 'wrong' and you will find a solution that works for you and honestly, if following the program tips you over the edge in what you can handle - ditch it, still eat healthy, and pick it up again at a time when you are in the right head space (and I speaking from experience here) to be able to do it and yourself justice.

Depression is a fickle thing.. It doesnt necessarily need a trigger you can put your finger on.

Clinical depression is hormone/chemical related. It is an imbalance in the brain that you do need medications to fix.. It is not something to be scared of as it can be fixed/treated.

From what you have said, it sounds like you may have depression...

Follow your doctor's advice on this one..

Hi there

Sorry you're feeling so awful of late.  Make sure your Doctor is checking your hormone levels - sometimes they check everything else but... check your estrogen levels.  I've had several friends told they are depressed and prescribed some variation of prozac etc when infact their hormone levels are out of whack.  Of course you will feel moody and all those things if your hormones are crazy.  Its may seem early days, but at 32 you could be peri-menopausal.

There is also a great remedy for hormone balancing called 30Plus - I have one friend who swears it saved her and her marriage.  It's at your pharmacy.

All the best, I hope you find some solutions - check everything before being told you need clinical help.

as soon as I read your post, I thought 'hormone imbalance'. Try to fix it with natural remedies before you accept a prescription med- docs just prescribe it too readily these days.

Try st. johns wort and evening primrose oil. Also get some rescue remedy to help with anxiety.Or go to a naturopath and he'll do a complete check and probably make you some drops.

You didn't mention one important thing- how do you actually feel- sad, angry, blue?

Thank you to everyone i knew i would get some understaniding here

the jem: he took the blood tests to check my hormone levels, i have a mirena coil in so i am definately not pregnant its just in the week leading up to my monthlys, when i get them things settle down.

jljoanne: thanks so much what you said made so much sense to me ..it's really hard to explain to anyone cause i am worried they will think i am crazy !! I don't think my husband even knows to the full extent how i feel.. dr asked what did hubby think i said i am pretty good at hiding it.. he is in bed when i get home then i am asleep when he goes to work we have to make time to see each other....could be part of the problem??!!

Sandradee: The request form for bloods said to check estrogen & progesteron levels they took about 4 diff lots of blood so i think he is checking everything.

Thank you to everyone who replies as i'm reading them i'm thinking aaahhhh it's not just me

At the time that this is all happening, I am feeling, angry cause every stupid little thing doesn't go my way, sad cause i really have 'no' reason to feel this way, guilty cause i snap to easy at my boys, gosh i could go on & on...after i posted this thread i sat here & cried my eyes out just cause i actually put it out there for somebodys opinion...its hard sometimes to admit that maybe something is just not right.

Hey hun, i hope you feel a little better soon.

I can vouch for the 30plus vitamens that sandra is talking about -- theres a pic of lisa curry kenny on the front of them.  I watched this woman, who was very teary and angry and hormonal for the longest time, before her sister came down from another state, and left her 3 boxes of them. (one box lasts a month) I saw this woman about a fortnight after - and the change was unbelieveable -- she couldnt of course see any change, but her hubby, kids and everyone else could.

Take advantage of the womens health centres, and your docs, as they will be able to lead you in the right direction, but most of all, do not think you are going through anything on your own -- there is help out there all you have to do is yell out

If you have a coil then it's pretty unlikely that you're pregnant... But NOT impossible. Please don't take St Johns Wort until your doctor can confirm it because it can cause damage to a growing bub. I don't like the chances that you are pregnant, those coils are pretty good! Lol. But better not to risk it just yet.

It does sound like an imbalance to me, clinical depression doesn't usually involve boobies *chuckle*. Perhaps you could be pre-menopausal :/ It sounds like you're having a horrid time of it, but if it's an hormonal imbalance problem thankfully it's fixable. I don't really have that much to offer other than don't let them just chuck you on anti-depressents without checking other avenues first. I was on Effexor for a short while until I heard about the side effects (NO ONE wants to deal with 'brain zaps'!) and then was put on Prozac. Both made me feel spaced out, Effexor made me feel really REALLY sick, and Prozac helped for a short while. The only thing that fixed the problem once and for all was quitting from my high stress workplace.
