Hi all,

this might be a stupid question but have people found that they are losing more weight and getting better numbers when they are doing frequent exercise during the week? I was going to the gym but found that i couldn't get into a good routine with the hours that i work...

How much exercise are people doing and how often, is it making a difference with their body shape and their weight loss?

What exercise are you doing, i have been sticking with cardio mainly, should i be doing more weights? or wait until i have reached my goal and then tone up???

hey danielle,

you dont have to go to the gym to exercise, all you got to do is move (the faster the better for cardio).  Turn simple everyday chores into exercise.  eg: Wind up the clothes line so its a bit of a stretch to get up there, and put the basket lower down so you squat to get it, so you are actually going up and down, choose steps instead of a lift, sweeping, moping dusting, thats all exercising some part of your body -- may be passive exercise but its still exercise. Walking or riding a bike will help too.

Because i am stuck at home a lot, and i prefer to do my things when the kids are asleep, i use dvds, and i am lucky i have a few machines i use each day, ohh and the wii also

Look in your local community paper also, there might be adverts for people wanting others to go walking, or doing dancing (thats great exercise) or various classes at community centres.  We talked the kids dance teacher into doing adult tap classes, now we have her teaching jazz as well, and we have classes two nights a week now, and its fun - our class has people in all shapes and sizes, and we just laugh a lot lol

i have been trying to exercise atleast 40mins a day... yesterday i pushed it too far and today i feel so tired
but thats mainly just running on the tredmill

i know with my body i cant just eat healthy... its exercise that gets the fat off for me...
coz even before TF i ate really healthy and still nothing shifted

thats what makes it easy for me to get up and exercise because being on TF would be a waste for me without the exercise

1st GOAL: loose 7kgs --------

If you are sick, DONT do exercise... Your body is already using a hell of a lot of energy trying to fight the illness, exercise now would take the energy away from fighting and you'll be sicker longer.. Give your body a break..

When you are feeling better, go for a walk... Add some hills to your route and there is your cardio for the day...

Take it one step at a time.. Dont jump straight into everything at once because you will hurt yourself and you are more likely to give it up..

Some other ideas for around the home:

  • exchange your computer chair for a fit ball - sitting on an unstable surface forces the abs the work harder. You'll get an ab workout without the crunches
  • dance the housework - put on some good music and swing those hips while vaccuuming/sweeping. That extra bit of movement will get the heartrate up.

As for how many times a week - try to walk everyday. Strength activities can be done 3 times a week, but if you are sore dont do them, stick with the walking..

Hey Gwyndion,

Thanks for the reply, I didn't even think of it that way, i think i may start walking when im feeling a bit better, i know i have wasted this week in terms of my weight loss so i just need to jump back on the wagon and stay this time, i fell off and trying to motivate myself to get back on and STAY on this time, i have only been doing this for 5 weeks and struggling already....im just feeling as though im failing at something i really want, so if it is me that really wants it....it is me that has to suk it up and do it!

Thanks again

Hey danielle,

i agree, if your sick focus on getting better then you can worry about everything else. Your body isnt going anywhere fast, so you can wait until its ready to start working out.

I quite often do stretching and gentle leg exercises while i am laying down watching tv, I dont make it things that are going to make me sweat its just mainly for flexability and i wouldnt have a clue how many i do as i really take no notice. My knees crack a lot, so i do a lot of leg lifts up and down, and leg kicks.  Its just a habit i got into a long time ago, then gave up when i was pregnant the second last time, and got back into again.  now my knees dont crack so much and i beleive it actually helps me through the day also.

What area of aust do you live in? perhaps when your better you might be able to team up with someone to go walking or something?

Im in Tassie, my sister and I were walking together but that only lasted a week or so and lifes nonsense got in the way and we have lost our routine. I sent her a message earlier and asked if she was interested in starting again, i havent heard back yet but i really hope that she has the time. People are right, it is so hard to get going again once you fall off the wagon!!! i was doing so well and now im failing myself

I have myself to blame, i just know that if i start exercising again that will motivate me, i hate the thought of doing exercise and not getting anything out of it because im gorging on junk! When i exercise i avoid bad foods and dont really think of them too much....LMAO - strange i know

well u answered your own problem in the last sentance - get rid of all the junk -- you dont want it, so remove it out of sight, completely. Sort out the cupboard and the fridge and put everything you have at a convient level and all the stuff you cant have put in the most inconvient place, and dont replace it if someone eats it -- make everyone in the house eat healthy stuff. Put bread in the freezer so that everyone can have 'fresh' sandwiches when its lunchtime, and change the white to wholemeal or wholegrain so its not so bad if you do eat it, and convert everything else you munch on too

Yep i agree, i would go walking with my girlfriend and her daughter in law, they were all for it until i turned up at their place, and i had to drag em out of the house, they lasted 3 days then the excuses started now i just cant be bothered doing it with them.

My preg 18yr old is at home hormonal and at the 'theres nothing to eat in the house stage' and told me this morning i dont need to be on tf, i should just go jogging -- funny how they just know it all huh. So i preceeded to ask her if my 4yr old and 2yr old would be able to keep up while i was jogging - oh was the reaction grrrrrrr

hey if your in tassie, isnt there like a walking group there, that does beaches or mountains etc? or are you in the wrong area - ususally they advertise in like the free papers
