Okay, so every friday I have a client who gives me a pie.

Which is insanely bad for me and Definitely not on the TF allow list, but in his culture its rude to refuse food.. so I can't refuse the pie or otherwise i'm going to offend him. God knows how many carbs in a pie, probably a truckload. So refusing the pie is out, because he'll hate me (even if I AM on a diet), and there's no way I can ask for something healthier.. .so how can I work a pie into my friday and still lose weight?

Would excercising on friday afternoon help?... Or trying to reduce my carbs during the rest of the day?... eeep

Can you tell him you have an intolerance to something and you dont know what it is however, your nutitionist has recommended that you dont eat pies or sausage rolls or anything with flour in it, and perhaps suggest something else. Pull them up before friday comes along and let them know or just tell them on friday -- your not really telling a porkie

I had my son on an elimination diet for his aspergiers, to see what foods had what reaction - you could always use that as an excuse if needbe. The diet was called the feingolds diet no preservatives or additives or meat pies allowed on that diet

Do you have to eat it in front of him?  Maybe you could accept it and then throw it away later?

If not, why not ask him to start bringing something different?  Suggest he bring a chicken salad or something and make that your main meal for the day?

I know that you don't want to offend him, but the simple fact of the matter is that you're always going to encounter situations where it's considered rude not to accept food, or an insult if you don't eat something offered. The trick is learning how to deflect the offers without insulting.
What I would do is say to him "I understand that you're offering this to me as a gift and that it's considered rude in your culture not to accept but please understand that I need to loose weight because otherwise I'm going to be in a lot of trouble health wise. So please understand that I have to decline with all the respect that I can offer. I do appreciate the offer though".

As long as you make a point of the fact that you respect him and that it's not because you want to be rude he should understand. I would also suggest that you bring a chicken salad or something with you to share with him, and while you eat explain the things that you're able to eat. That way should he choose to continue offering food he'll know what you can and can't eat

I really like download's approach. Be honest up front and respectful.

I thought about saying "oh that looks delicous but I have already eaten. Can I save it for later' Then that way you could give it to someone else without hurting thier feelings. That's an option if you feel you cannot be open and honest with them.

Let us know how you get in.

It's so hard isn't it?!?! Most people are well meaning and kind hearted and want to share. And then there are the ones out to sabotage us. But hey that's a whole other thread lol

Cultural or not, I'm sure he doesn't want to force feed you.

I know this isn't very pc of me, but.... what about YOUR CULTURE of not wanting to get fat?

You can't let a minority belief (that isn't yours) dictate your lifestyle.

I'm sure if they are lovely as you say they will understand that Friday can not be Pie Day :O)
