Hi all,

This might sound silly but is there such a thing as drinking too much water? Also, just wondering about the cold or room temperature thing. I always drink my water at room temperature because that is how I prefer it. Would I be losing more weight if I was drinking it cold? I will do whatever it takes! lol.

Thanks in advance,

Hi just a quick question re: water.  Can you drink too much?  I drink up to 4 litres or sometimes 5 a day.  Is this too much or is it okay?

regards

I make sure I drink all my water everyday....2 litres, sometimes another glass or two.

I know that it is supposed to help you lose weight so hopefully that is right.

Hi Catering mum,

Yes , it is possible to drink TOO much water. It is called Water intoxication. This causes hyponatremia, where the body's sodium levels are diluted. Sodium is an essential mineral for the body, and can cause huge problems within cells as fluid and electrolyte imbalances occur. This is turn can cause cells to become 'waterlogged', and less efficient, potentially fatally. You may also experience muscle cramps as muscles need a precise balance of sodium and potassium to function properly. Drinking too much water (or drinking it faster than the kidneys can handle) can disrupt this balance. Three litres would be better than 4 and 5 is too extreme. Especially on Tf where salt is not allowed.

Also, someone said that people with kidney problems need less fluid that 2 litres. This is very true. There are people who need strict fluid limits, but these people are also closely monitored by their GP or Urologist. Healthy people can and should drink 2 litres room temperature water a day.

By the way, I am a nurse, I am not just sprouting off fairy tales!!

Drinking too much cold water can also lead to crohn's disease I believe.

Hi
interesting to read that cold water is better for weight loss than room temperature. Drinking cold water upsets my stomach more than water which is a little bit colder than room temperature.
Take care and good loss
